With this past week being one of the coldest weeks in a very long time, many of us are sitting inside bundled under a blanket not wanting to risk opening up any door to our home. Some of you may have noticed that your home may be colder than anticipated during these cold temperatures. We wanted to give you a list of 5 Energy Saving Tips that you can use in your home to not only keep your home warm, but help you save energy along the way:
- Energy Saving Tip #1. Seal Your Doors and Windows: A good rule of thumb is that if you can feel cold air around the sealing of your doors and windows, it means that it is not properly sealed. By re-sealing your doors and windows, you prevent the warm air in your home from escaping outdoors.
- Energy Saving Tip #2. Keep an Eye on Your Fireplace: The only time that your chimney flue should really be open is if you are actually having fires in your fireplace. If you are not planning on having a fire any time soon, make sure to shut your chimney flue. Additionally, if you plan on never actually using your fireplace, we recommend sealing it entirely to prevent any warm air loss.
